An Iranian lawmaker says a prominent detained reformist is being
transferred from a prison to a government-owned residence, due to
concerns about his health.
Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency
quoted lawmaker Kazem Jalali as saying detainee Saeed Hajjarian was
being moved to a "state-owned house" on Thursday.
Jalali said the residence has suitable medical and welfare facilities and a swimming pool.
Earlier this week, a senior Iranian lawmaker said Hajjarian would be released soon. It is not clear if that is still the case.
Iran's
state-run Press TV describes Hajjarian as a "political activist" who
was arrested on June 16 for allegedly orchestrating unrest after the
June 12 presidential election.
In related news, Iranian media
report a group of 20 detainees will go on trial Saturday in connection
to the post-election unrest. The charges include carrying weapons,
damaging property and preparing reports for foreign media outlets.
Political activists, journalists and others were arrested as part of a crackdown on protests that stemmed from the election.
