China has signed agreements to give Tanzania nearly $22 million in aid for agriculture and communications technology.
President Hu Jintao witnessed the signing Sunday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the third stop on his four-nation tour of Africa.
Mr. Hu was welcomed by trumpets, dancers, and a 21-gun salute upon his arrival. He later met with Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, and said the two nations enjoy a relationship of solidarity and cooperation.
Mr. Hu previously stopped in Senegal, where he signed aid and loan deals worth $90 million, and Mali, where he laid the first stone for a bridge in the capital, Bamako.
China has dramatically increased aid, trade and investment across Africa in recent years. Critics say Beijing is exploiting the continent. China says its deals are mutually beneficial.
Mr. Hu wraps up his tour with a visit to the Indian Ocean island of Mauritius on Monday.
