Authorities say at least 15 people have died in a series of violent incidents in Afghanistan.
The Afghan Interior Ministry says Afghan police and international troops killed 10 militants in southern Helmand province overnight.
Meanwhile, the U.S.-led coalition Friday said its troops shot and killed a civilian man who did not stop his vehicle as it approached a checkpoint in Khost province Friday. A military statement says two other civilians, a child and a woman, were wounded.
In eastern Afghanistan, authorities say two local officials and two police officers have been killed in three separate attacks.
Two of the attacks happened in Nangarhar province. A local government spokesman, Ahmed Zia Abdulzai, says unknown gunmen killed a senior member of the provincial council, Khan Mohammed, in Dara-i-Noor early Saturday while he was driving to his office in Jalalabad.
He also says a roadside bomb killed a district chief near the border with Pakistan, but there are conflicting reports about which district it was.
In neighboring Laghman province late Friday, two police officers died in clashes with Taliban militants.
A provincial spokesman said the Qarghayi district police chief and another policeman were killed while trying to reinforce a police checkpoint that had been attacked by insurgents.
