Guitarist Tuck Andress and singer Patti Cathcart are closing in on their 30th year as the popular husband-and wife jazz duo Tuck and Patti, proving that the couple that plays together stays together. Here's a look at their latest recording effort, which pays tribute to enduring love songs from the Great American Songbook.
With the release of I Remember You, Tuck and Patti have come full circle. For instance, little did the couple know that they would someday record a version of George and Ira Gershwin's "Embraceable You," the first dance song at their wedding reception.
Through the years, Tuck and Patti have won the jazz world over with a series of albums that have almost always defied categories; Tuck's intricate guitar accompaniment timed perfectly to Patti's sultry vocals on soul ballads, rock classics and pop originals. The duo has even dabbled in gospel, disco and reggae.
But, as longtime fans know, Tuck and Patti can turn out a pop standard like no other.
At the heart of Tuck and Patti's new album is the spirit of another famous jazz duo, Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass, who recorded "A Foggy Day" for their 1973 album, Take Love Easy.
Tuck and Patti describe Ella and Joe's collaboration as a "beacon," adding, "They showed us how spontaneous, intimate and fascinating a vocal/guitar conversation could be."
Just as compelling are Tuck and Patti's fresh take on works by Johnny Mercer, Duke Ellington, Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein, Moss Hart, and Ray Noble who composed the 1930's hit, "The Very Thought of You."
