Iraqi police say at least four people have been killed in a car bomb blast outside a popular restaurant in western Baghdad.
Police
say at least 13 other people, including police, were hurt when the car
blew up Thursday in the predominantly Shi'ite neighborhood of Shula.
The U.S. military says the Shula blast killed one person and wounded 23 others, including police.
Authorities have not said who may have planted the bomb outside the restaurant frequented by police and construction workers.
In
another attack, the U.S. military says an American soldier was killed
due to "indirect fire" near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. The
military uses the term "indirect fire" to refer to rocket or mortar
fire.
Separate military statements say Iraqi security forces
arrested 11 suspected terrorists in operations in central, northern and
western Iraq in recent days. The military says one person arrested was
a major general in Saddam Hussein's regime who allegedly finances
anti-coalition forces with possible ties to terrorist and criminal
groups.
Also Thursday, Iraqi officials say attackers blew up an oil
pipeline in the northern city of Kirkuk. Authorities are working to
fix the damage.
