The governor of the U.S. state of Delaware has named a replacement for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Vice President-elect Joe Biden.
Governor Ruth Ann Minner on Monday named Edward Ted Kaufman, a former Biden aide, to fill the seat for the next two years.
After that, he is expected to retire, allowing Delaware voters to choose who will fill the seat for the four-year remainder of the Senate term.
Kaufman served as Biden's chief of staff for 19 years and now runs a political and management consulting firm based in Wilmington, Delaware. He had served on the Broadcasting Board of Governors, which oversees VOA, since 1995. He resigned that position Monday.
