Militants in the Afghan capital, Kabul, have abducted a French aid worker, while authorities in northwestern Pakistan continue to search for an Afghan government advisor kidnapped late Sunday.
Afghan security officials in Kabul say three gunmen in a vehicle tried to seize two French aid workers traveling to work Monday morning.
One of the Frenchmen managed to escape, but the gunmen seized the other one, killing an Afghan passerby who tried to intervene.
The Paris-based human rights group, Solidarite Laique, said the kidnapped man is one of its staffers.
Meanwhile, Pakistani police continue to search for the adviser to the Afghan Ministry of Rural Development, Akhtar Kohistani, who was abducted when gunmen broke into his relative's home in the town of Chitral.
Kohistani is the third high-profile Afghan to be kidnapped in Pakistan in recent months.
Last week, unidentified gunmen abducted the brother of Afghanistan's finance minister from the upscale Hayatabad neighborhood in Peshawar.
Afghanistan's top diplomat Abdul Khaliq Farahi was kidnapped from the same district in September. All three are still missing.
