Authorities in Iraq say bomb attacks across the country have killed at least nine people and wounded about 70 others.
Iraqi officials say a suicide truck bomber attacked a police checkpoint in the northern city of Kirkuk on Sunday, killing three people. Another suicide truck bomber struck the northern city of Mosul, killing two people.
Elsewhere, a roadside bomb blast hit a minibus in eastern Iraq's Diyala province, killing three people.
In other violence on Sunday, the U.S. military says a roadside bomb in Baghdad killed a local businessman. Authorities in the capital also say militants opened fire on a senior interior ministry official, Brigadier General Adel Abbas and his driver. There are conflicting reports about whether the official was killed.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military says coalition forces detained 25 suspected al-Qaida militants in operations across Iraq on Saturday and Sunday. It says U.S.-led troops also captured five suspected Iranian-backed insurgents in Baghdad on Sunday.
