Pakistani Military: Dozens of Militants Killed in Tribal Region

Pakistani military officials say dozens of militants have been killed in three days of fighting in the country's northwest.

They say at least two soldiers and more than 64 militants have been killed since Thursday, as the military continues its offensive against al-Qaida and Taliban militants in the Bajaur tribal region.

Thousands of people have been displaced by the ongoing conflict along the Afghan border. Friday, the International Committee of the Red Cross appealed for more aid to provide emergency help to nearly 60,000 people.

Friday, Pakistan's Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani condemned a suspected U.S. missile strike in North Waziristan tribal region, and said he would pursue the issue with the U.S. on a diplomatic level.

A Pakistani opposition lawmaker, Nisar Ali Khan, also vowed to defend the country's territorial integrity and called for a joint session of parliament to address a series of recent suspected U.S. strikes along the border with Afghanistan.
