The United States and Poland have moved to the top of their Olympic men's volleyball group standings after two preliminary round games.
The U.S. men rallied to beat third-place Italy, 3-1 (24-26, 25-22 25-15, 25-21) Tuesday in a Group A contest.
The Bulgarians are in second-place after defeating last-place Japan, 3-1 (29-27, 23-25, 25-21, 25-19). Fourth-place China edged fifth-place Venezuela, 3-2 (25-21, 21-25, 16-25, 25-21, 16-14).
In Group B, Poland trounced last place Egypt, 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-10), while second place Brazil was a 3-1 (25-27, 25-20, 25-17, 25-21) winner over Serbia. Germany, which is tied for fourth place with Serbia, fell to third-place Russia, 3-2 (25-27, 25-21, 21-25, 25-13, 16-14).
The top four teams in each group advance to the single elimination quarterfinals.
