Kenyan-born world champion Bernard Lagat has captured two events at the
U.S. Olympic track and field trials in Eugene, Oregon, and will go for
Beijing gold in the men's 1500 and 5000 meters.
Lagat, who was
the only person to win two events at the two-week trials, will be
joined in the 1500 by Mexican-born Leonel Manzano and Sudanese-born
Lopez Lomong.
Allyson Felix, who missed the chance to compete
for two golds in Beijing when she failed to qualify in the 100-meters,
cruised to victory in Sunday's 200-meters (21.82) to punch her Olympic
ticket.
Jenn Stuczynski set a U.S. pole vault record of 4.92
meters to qualify on her third and final jump, while Walter Dix won the
men's 200-meters (19.86). Shawn Crawford and Wallace Spearmon also
qualified for the event.
Muna Lee qualified for Beijing in
the women's 100 and 200-meters, while Torri Edwards will compete in the
100-meters and Marshevet Hooker qualified for the 200-meters.
David
Oliver won the men's 110-meter hurdles (12.95), while Lolo Jones
breezed to victory in the women's 100-meter hurdles (12.29).
