A European Union adviser says the Palestinian Authority will ask
international donors for $187 million in aid to support security in the
Palestinian territories.
The head of the EU police training
mission in Palestinian territories, Colin Smith, says the aid will go
towards police training as well as the construction of police stations,
prisons, courts and a forensics laboratory.
Smith says the bulk
of the money will come from the more than $7 billion already
pledged to the Palestinian Authority.
The request will be presented next week at an international security conference in Berlin, Germany.
