Jordan's King Abdullah has hosted talks with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert in an effort to advance the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
During Wednesday's previously unannounced meeting, King Abdullah stressed the need for negotiations to lead to a two-state agreement before the end of the year.
King Abdullah met last week with U.S. President George Bush in Washington to discuss ways to further Middle East peace efforts.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military says army troops did not realize they were firing at a journalist when they killed a cameraman from the Reuters news agency two weeks ago in Gaza. The military says this was the preliminary finding of an investigation into April 16 clashes between militants and troops.
And Palestinian medical sources say an Israeli airstrike killed a Palestinian militant and wounded several other people today in the southern Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army says it struck a workshop where rockets are manufactured.
In other news, Egypt says 12 small Palestinian factions have agreed to Egyptian proposals for a truce with Israel that would begin in the Gaza Strip and be extended to the West Bank.
Egypt's state news agency, MENA quotes officials as saying the Palestinian groups approved the cease-fire offer at a meeting today in Cairo.
No timeframe to implement the cease-fire was provided.
Israel has expressed doubts about the latest Palestinian truce offers, arguing they would give militants time to re-arm.
