One Iraqi soldier died and four others were wounded in a bomb blast in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul Tuesday, as two other explosions killed eight people elsewhere around the country.
A bomb attached to a vehicle blew up as Iraqi soldiers inspected it near Mosul's Provincial Hall on Tuesday.
In Diyala province, a female suicide bomber blew herself up near a police station, killing six people and wounding twelve others. Most of the dead were policemen.
Earlier, the U.S. military announced that a bomb blast killed two U.S. Marines near the western city of Ramadi.
In other news, Osama bin Laden's chief deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, is warning that al-Qaida will target Western countries involved in the war in Iraq.
Ayman al-Zawahiri issued the threat in an audio recording released Tuesday on a militant Web site. The recording was not immediately verified as authentic.
During the 2.5-hour message, Zawahiri stressed that jihad in Iraq is important.
The terrorist leader was answering questions submitted to Internet forums. It is the second time Zawahiri has responded to such questions in this manner.
Another U.S. Marine died Monday in an explosion in the southern city of Basra.
