Serbian prosecutors are preparing an indictment against a suspect accused of setting fire to the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade last month during riots against the Kosovo declaration of independence.
The announcement came Tuesday in Belgrade. A court spokeswoman Ivana Ramic told the Associated Press the suspect, identified only as Milan Z., is in custody and faces charges of arson and theft.
Belgrade police have already filed charges against dozens of people suspected of taking part in the February 21 attacks on the U.S. and other embassies. Serbian nationalists were angered at the decision of those countries to recognize Kosovo independence.
Meanwhile, Sweden became the latest Western government to recognize Kosovo. The United States and a number of European countries have extended diplomatic recognition.
Traditional Serbian ally Russia has joined Belgrade in denouncing the declaration by Kosovo's ethnic Albanian majority.
