An original copy of the Magna Carta is back at the U.S. National Archives in Washington.
This version of the document had been owned for centuries by a family of English earls. Then it was purchased for $1.5 million by American billionaire Ross Perot. Perot had lent it to the National Archives for 20 years until he put it up for auction in New York last September.
It was bought for $21 million by David Rubenstein who helps run an equity firm in Washington. Rubenstein has returned it to the National Archives, where it is on permanent loan.
The Magna Carta is an English charter from the 13th century that guaranteed human rights, and is considered a forerunner to the U.S. Bill of Rights.
