The United Nations mission in Nepal has confirmed that a helicopter that crashed Monday with no survivors was carrying U.N. staff members.
A spokesman says there were seven U.N. employees and three crew members aboard the aircraft that went down in the hilly eastern district of Ramechhap. Police said 10 bodies were pulled from the wreckage. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
A U.S. spokesman in Nepal said the mission will provide more information on the victims' identities on Tuesday after they are confirmed.
The helicopter was returning from an arms-monitoring mission at a camp sheltering former Maoist rebels.
The United Nations has been working in Nepal since 2006 on a peace deal between Nepalese authorities and former Maoist rebels.
