The U.N. Security Council has demanded Eritrea immediately end fuel delivery restrictions that are hampering the U.N. peace-keeping mission on the Eritrea-Ethiopia border.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the security council demanded the fuel deliveries resume so the mission do its job.
Last week, the Security Council renewed the mandate of the mission for another another six months.
In that resolution the council had noted with grave concern the mission's fuel levels were low and had also demanded that Eritrea resume fuel shipments to troops or allow the mission to import fuel without restrictions.
The U.N. has said the fuel shortages are paralyzing the ability of the mission on the Eritrean side of the border and are making living conditions difficult for U.N. staff.
Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has said if the fuel restrictions were not lifted by Wednesday, the mission's staff and equipment would have to be relocated out of Eritrea.
The United Nations has nearly 1,700 peacekeepers monitoring the disputed border between Ethiopia and Eritrea.
