The U.S. military says coalition forces in northern and central Iraq have killed four suspected militants and detained 18 others during a series of operations targeting al-Qaida since Friday.
The military says coalition troops captured three suspected militants during one of the raids in Baghdad early Saturday. It says one detainee is believed to have been involved in extremist activity in the Arab Jabour area.
The military also announced the death of an American soldier who was killed in an attack Friday in northern Ninevah province.
Separately, Iraqi officials say two members of a security patrol group were killed and 10 others wounded in an explosion in Baghdad today. Officials say the blast struck the group's headquarters in the northern Adhamiya neighborhood.
Elsewhere, officials in Baquba, north of Baghdad, say three policemen were killed today when they came under attack by small-arms fire.
In the southern Doura neighborhood, Iraqi officials say gunmen wounded at least two security patrol members in a separate incident today.
In other news, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk told reporters in Warsaw today the government is submitting a request to Poland's president to terminate the country's military mission in Iraq. He said he wants the last Polish troops out of Iraq by October 2008.
Mr. Tusk said he plans to visit Iraq before the end of the month.
