Afghan officials say a rocket-filled vehicle blew up near Kabul's police headquarters early this Saturday morning, killing at least five people and wounding several others, including two policemen.
A Defense Ministry spokesman, General Zahir Azimi, said moments before the explosion one rocket was fired - apparently by remote control - toward the police headquarters. But it landed in a crowd, causing civilian casualties.
The rockets were smuggled into the city by hiding them under a pile of hay on the vehicle.
The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was targeted at police.
The Taliban carried out two separate suicide attacks in Kabul earlier this month, killing 13 civilians and wounding 22 others.
Hundreds of Afghan and British troops patrolled the streets of the southern Afghan town of Musa Qala Saturday five days after regaining control of the area.
British Brigadier Andrew Mackay says two rockets were fired into the town from the outskirts where some Taliban had escaped. No injuries were reported.
