'Democratic Voice of Burma' Receives Award from Media Advocacy Group

The media rights group Reporters Without Borders has recognized a Burmese-run television and radio network for its work, including coverage of September's pro-democracy protests in Burma.

The group says the Norway-based Democratic Voice of Burma was one of the few media that sent out images of the Burmese military crackdown on demonstrations led by Buddhist monks.

Reporters Without Borders chose the station to receive its 2007 award recognizing "a media that exemplifies the battle for the right to inform the public and be informed."

The non-profit media organization was founded in 1992 by a group of pro-democracy students who escaped the massacres of a 1988 crackdown by Burma's military government.
