Bush Hosts US Nobel Laureates

update

President Bush has met at the White House with several American Nobel Prize winners, including former Vice President Al Gore, who lost the disputed U.S elections in 2000 to Mr. Bush.

The meeting with the 2007 Nobel laureates took place Monday as Mr. Bush hosted a reception in their honor. Earlier, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said the president invited Gore because the former vice president was one of the award winners.

Mr. Bush and Gore spent 40 minutes in a private Oval Office meeting. Gore said he and the president discussed global warming. The White House declined to comment on the meeting.

Gore and the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change won this year's Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to disseminate knowledge about the dangers of climate change.

Gore served as vice president under President Bill Clinton from 1993 to 2001. Gore was the Democratic presidential nominee in 2000 and won the popular vote. But he lost the White House to the current president after a bitter and prolonged legal battle for electoral votes in Florida.
