Togo's constitutional court has confirmed that the ruling party won a clear majority in the country's parliamentary elections earlier this month.
Court officials said Tuesday that the Rally for the Togolese People garnered 50 out of 81 seats in the October 14 vote.
The opposition's Union of Forces for Change obtained 27 seats. The Action Committee for Renewal won four seats.
Togo's election commission last week said it could not announce the official results because of irregularities during a vote count in Lome district.
European and African observers declared the election generally fair, but opposition parties have complained of fraud.
The government hopes that the election will unlock millions of dollars in much-needed international donor aid.
The European Union froze its assistance to Togo in 1993, citing the west African country's poor human rights record.
