Baseball Playoffs: Boston Wins American League Title

update

The Boston Red Sox have defeated the Cleveland Indians, 11-2, to reach Major League Baseball's World Series.

Cleveland had led the best-of-seven American League Championship Series, 3-1, before Boston won three straight. In the decisive Game Seven Sunday at Fenway Park in Boston, the Red Sox opened a 2-0 lead early in the game.

Cleveland pulled to within one run. But with the score 3-2 in the seventh inning, Boston rookie second baseman Dustin Pedroia blasted a two-run home run to seal the victory. Pedroia drove in three more runs in the eighth inning.

Boston made a similar comeback against the New York Yankees in 2004, erasing a 3-0 deficit to reach and win the World Series that year.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Boston hosts the National League champion Colorado Rockies in the first two games of the World Series. Boston is making its 11th appearance in the so-called Fall Classic, while Colorado is in the World Series for the first time in franchise history.
