United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon says he will meet with his special envoy Ibrahim Gambari Thursday to discuss the violent crackdown on pro-democracy demonstrators in Burma.
Mr. Ban said Gambari delivered a strong message to Burma's military government during his four-day visit to the nation this week.
Soon after Gambari left Burma, government troops Wednesday increased efforts to intimidate pro-democracy activists in the capital Rangoon.
Troops patrolled city streets, using loudspeakers to warn residents that people who took part in last week's protests will be found and arrested.
