U.S. weather forecasters say a hurricane heading for Central America has weakened to a Category Four storm, but remains extremely dangerous.
The National Weather Service adds that Hurricane Felix could restrengthen.
A hurricane warning is in effect from the Honduran city of Limon to Puerto Cabezas in Nicaragua. The coast of Belize and other parts of the Honduran and Nicaraguan coasts are under a hurricane watch.
The weather service says the storm has maximum sustained winds of near 230 kilometers per hour.
Mid-day Monday, the storm was centered about 490 kilometers east of the Nicaragua-Honduras border. It is expected to hit the coast early Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the U.S. National Weather Service says a tropical storm heading for Mexico's Baja California peninsula is nearing hurricane strength.
The weather service says Tropical Storm Henriette has maximum sustained winds near 110 kilometers per hour. It says it is located 360 kilometers southeast of the southern tip of Baja California.
A hurricane warning remains in effect for parts of Baja California. Henriette is expected to become a hurricane later today.
The weather service is warning of possible life-threatening flash floods and mudslides from both storms. Landslides triggered by heavy rains from Henriette killed six people in western Mexico.
Hurricane Felix is the second hurricane of the Atlantic season. It strengthened Sunday from a Category Two Hurricane into a dangerous Category Five storm - the most powerful category. It weakened to a Category Four Monday.
