Popular Indian film star Salman Khan is facing a jail term after losing an appeal against his conviction for killing an endangered species of gazelle.
A court in the city of Jodhpur Friday rejected Khan's appeal against last year's court ruing that sentenced him to prison for five years for killing a chinkara in 1998, while shooting a film in northwestern Rajasthan state.
Khan was not present during Friday's court hearing. One of his lawyers said he could still appeal to a higher court.
In a separate case, another Indian actor, Sanjay Dutt, walked out of jail Thursday, after being granted bail on his six-year prison sentence for illegal arms possession.
The Supreme Court granted Dutt bail earlier this week because a Mumbai court had failed to give him a copy of his conviction. He is due to return to prison after receiving the paperwork.
The film star was sentenced to jail on July 31 for illegally possessing weapons supplied by men involved in the 1993 Mumbai bombings. The actor is one of more than 100 people sentenced in connection with the Mumbai blasts, which killed 257 people.
