What's Next for J.K. Rowling?

With Harry Potter behind her, what's next for J.K. Rowling?

Crime, perhaps - Britain's Sunday Times newspaper reports the author has been spotted at cafes in Scotland working on a detective novel.

Author Ian Rankin, who lives near Rowling, said "My wife spotted her writing her Edinburgh criminal detective novel. It is great that she has not abandoned writing or Edinburgh cafes." Rankin is known for police novels set in the historic Scottish city.

Rowling wrote initial drafts of the Potter story in the Scottish city's cafes. At the time, she was a struggling single mother who wrote in cafes to save on her home heating bill.

Today she is Britain's richest woman - Forbes magazine places her net worth at $1 billion.

The seven "Harry Potter" books have sold more than 335 million copies worldwide.

Speaking last month to the Associated Press, Rowling said she is unlikely to repeat the success of the Harry Potter series.

"I'll do exactly what I did with Harry - I'll write what I really want to write," she said.

The office of Rowling's literary agent, Christopher Little, did not immediately comment.
