Iraqi and U.S. officials have confirmed that former Iraqi deputy prime minister Tariq Aziz was hospitalized last week.
But officials from both nations are quoted Saturday, as saying he is back in a U.S. detention facility in Iraq after doctors gave him a clean bill of health. They say Aziz fell last week in prison, and he was taken to a hospital in Balad for a medical evaluation.
Doctors are said to have determined that Aziz is in good health.
Earlier Saturday, a lawyer representing Aziz told reporters the former deputy prime minister was hospitalized after temporarily losing consciousness. He said Aziz was admitted to the hospital's intensive care unit.
Aziz served as deputy prime minister during Saddam Hussein's regime. He is suspected of murder, but sources close to him say he has never formally been charged.
