Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf held an emergency meeting Friday on ways to combat a sharp rise in militant attacks across the country.
General Musharraf and key officials, including Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, met in the president's army residence in Rawalpindi.
Meanwhile, attacks continued Friday as a car loaded with explosives rammed into a paramilitary checkpoint in North Waziristan, killing four people.
On Thursday, three suicide bombings killed at least 52 people and wounded many others. The attacks took place in the south and northern parts of the country.
More than 160 people have been killed in a wave of militant violence since the government raided a radical mosque in Islamabad last week. Militants have threatened to avenge the deaths of scores of mosque supporters and a top cleric.
