Lady Bird Johnson Buried in Texas

update

Lady Bird Johnson, the widow of the late U.S. President Lyndon Johnson, has been buried beside her husband at their ranch in Texas.

Mrs. Johnson died of natural causes Wednesday at age 94.

Mourners lined streets and highways to bid the former first lady a final farewell as a motorcade carried her casket to the burial site.

At Saturday's funeral service, Mrs. Johnson was eulogized for championing early childhood education and for working to beautify public spaces in the United States.

Lady Bird Johnson was born Claudia Alta Taylor in 1912 in Texas and was given the nickname Lady Bird by her nurse, who said she was as pretty as a ladybird.

Mr. Johnson was elected vice president in 1960. He assumed the presidency after the 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy. Mr. Johnson was elected to a full term in 1964. He chose not to run for re-election in 1968.
