Iran has accused the U.N. Security Council of doing nothing to stop what Tehran describes as Israeli threats to attack Iran.
Iran's U.N. Ambassador Javad Zarif made the accusation in a letter sent recently to Security Council President Johan Verbeke of Belgium. The letter was made public on Monday.
In the letter, Zarif referred to remarks made by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Deputy Prime Minister Shaul Mofaz that Israel has not ruled out military action to stop Iran's nuclear program.
Zarif faulted the Security Council for not condemning those remarks.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has made controversial comments about Israel in the past. He recently said the world will witness the destruction of the Jewish state in the near future. He has also said Israel should be wiped off the map.
The United States and its allies accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons. Iran denies the charge.
