A strong earthquake in southwestern China's Yunnan province has killed at least two people and injured 200 others.
The state-run Xinhua news agency says at least 15 of the injuries are serious.
The 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit the historic city of Pu'er and the surrounding mountainous areas Sunday at dawn, 5:34 a.m., local time, shaking people awake.
Xinhua says the quake destroyed houses and roads, and affected the communication network, water and power supplies to the area.
The earthquake's epicenter was located about 80 kilometers from Pu'er. Xinhua says there have been numerous aftershocks, and tremors have been reported as far as 200 kilometers to the north and south of the epicenter.
Xinhua says rescue operations are under way, and that provincial officials are sending 2,000 tents to the worst-affected areas.
Pu'er is in an area that borders Burma, Laos and Vietnam. It is well-known for the distinctive variety of tea produced there.
