US Forces Search for Missing Soldiers Despite Threat

U.S. forces in Iraq continue to search for three missing U.S. soldiers, despite threats from an al-Qaida-led militant group to call off the hunt.

Thousands of U.S. troops, backed by helicopters and Iraqi forces, have been searching for the soldiers in an area south of Baghdad known as the "triangle of death."

On Monday in a message posted to the Internet, the "Islamic State of Iraq" demanded the United States call off its search if the soldiers are to remain safe. The servicemen were abducted Saturday during an attack south of Baghdad. Four other U.S. troops were killed in the ambush.

In central Baghdad, Iraqi police say at least seven people were killed Tuesday when a pair of bombs exploded at a market, Tayaran Square. At least 15 others were wounded.

Coalition forces detained 10 suspected terrorists today during raids targeting the Ansar al-Sunna and al-Qaida in Iraq terrorist networks. The raids took place in Mosul, Fallujah and the northwestern city of Taji.

Some information for this report was provided by AP and Reuters.
