Authorities in Afghanistan say two bombings in the eastern city of Khost, near the Pakistan border, have killed at least seven people and wounded many others.
Officials said Sunday a suicide bomber blew himself up near a market as he was being chased by police. The blast killed at least six civilians and wounded at least 40 others. There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack.
A short time earlier, an explosion in the crowded market killed a shopkeeper and wounded at least seven other people. Officials say the blast was a result of a dispute between rival groups, and not related to the Taleban.
Separately, Afghan authorities said Sunday five Taleban militants and a police officer were killed in a gun battle Saturday in eastern Paktia province.
Khost province has been the scene of several recent attacks by suspected Taleban militants. On April 14 a suicide bomber killed seven policemen when he blew himself up outside a police station.
