Thousands of demonstrators in Ukraine temporarily delayed the start of a second day of hearings on whether President Viktor Yushchenko acted legally in disbanding parliament and ordering early elections.
It took police about an hour Wednesday to make a path so the judges could enter Ukraine's Constitutional Court building in Kyiv.
The proceedings resumed once a majority of the 18 judges had safely made their way through the crowd, which included supporters of the president as well as of Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych.
Meanwhile, opposition leader and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko called on supporters to gather in Kyiv's European Square Friday for a protest against Mr. Yanukovych.
Tuesday, the president and prime minister separately presented their conflicting viewpoints to European officials.
President Yushchenko visited European Union headquarters in Brussels and Prime Minister Yanukovych addressed the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.
Both men have vowed to solve the crisis by democratic means.
