Several mortar shells have hit the Somali presidential palace in Mogadishu, hours after interim President Abdullahi Yusuf arrived at the residence.
Witnesses say the shells hit both inside and outside the hilltop palace, known as Villa Somalia. There was no immediate word on President Yusuf.
The president arrived the Somali capital earlier Tuesday, one day after parliament voted to move the interim government from the provincial town of Baidoa.
The move comes as the government attempts to restore stability in the capital, where insurgents have been attacking government targets almost daily.
Two people were killed Tuesday in a roadside bomb attack that targeted the city's deputy mayor. The Associated Press says the deputy mayor suffered only minor injuries.
In another incident, unidentified gunmen attacked an Ethiopian military convoy. An Ethiopian vehicle blew up during the attack. At least three civilians were wounded and taken to hospitals.
Some 1,200 African Union troops, all from Uganda, arrived last week to help the government in its effort to restore peace.
The A.U. plans to send at least several thousand troops to replace Ethiopian forces who helped the government defeat a rival Islamist movement late last year.
