Pakistan officials say they will close four camps holding 240,000 refugees from Afghanistan within about six months.
The announcement was made after Pakistani and Afghan ministers met with United Nations High Commission for Refugees officials in Pakistan's capital, Islamabad, Wednesday.
More than two million Afghan refugees currently live in camps in Pakistan.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz told NATO and European Union officials last week that the refugee camps along the border with Afghanistan provide recruiting grounds and safe havens for terrorists. He said he needs European help in repatriating the people who live in the camps.
