Senior Taleban Leader Possibly Killed in NATO Airstrike

NATO says it may have killed a senior Taleban leader and his deputies with an airstrike along southern Afghanistan's border with Pakistan.

A statement from the alliance says the strike completely destroyed the targeted compound Thursday in Helmand province. NATO did not identify the Taleban members believed to be inside.

In the same province, a suicide bomber blew himself up Friday after security forces shot and wounded him outside a U.S.-funded aid office. The bomb blast wounded at least one other person.

Last month, in Helmand province, a U.S. airstrike killed Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Osmani, the Taleban's chief of military operations, who was also a close associate of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.

Some information for this report was provided by AP and Reuters.
