Independent investigators appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council say Iran is about to execute seven Arabs accused of receiving Western training to overthrow the Iranian government.
In a statement from Geneva, the investigators say that the seven are accused of serious crimes, but their trials "made a mockery of due process requirements."
The experts say the convictions were reportedly based on confessions obtained under torture. The U.N. experts say the trial was held in secret, and the accused were not allowed to consult with lawyers beforehand.
The seven were among 10 people arrested in June and accused of being trained by U.S., British and Israeli officials in Iraq. Three have already been executed.
The suspects, members of the ethnic Ahwazi Arab minority, were arrested in Iran's Khuzestan province, which borders Iraq.
