Defending World Cup champion Brazil pounded Swiss club FC Lucerne, 8-0 in Basel. Ronaldo and Adriano scored two goals each. In Salerno, Italy, Argentina edged Angola, 2-0, getting goals from Maxi Rodriguez and Juan Pablo Sorin. Host England beat Hungary 3-1 in Manchester. Steve Gerrard, John Terry and Peter Crouch scored for the English team.
Jan Koller started his first international game since injuring his knee in September and led the host Czech Republic to a 1-0 win over Costa Rica, in Jablonec Nad Nisou.
Host Germany settled for a 2-2 draw with fellow World Cup qualifier Japan in Leverkusen. Ivory Coast was held to a 1-1 draw by Chile in a game played in Vittell, France. Poland lost to Colombia 2-1. Chile and Colombia did not qualify.
In a match between two teams not headed to the World Cup, Uruguay edged Libya, 2-1, in Rades, Tunisia at the LG Cup. The four-nation event also features World Cup-bound Tunisia, which beat Belarus 3-0.
