Five days after a massive landslide buried a Philippines village under up to 30-meters of mud, officials are admitting the recovery mission has become a search for bodies rather than survivors.
Tuesday, rescue workers concentrated on reaching a school in Guinsaugon village on Leyte island. Sensing equipment picked up sounds under the mud on Monday, but the sounds have not been heard since.
Only 107 bodies have been recovered, and more than one-thousand people are feared dead. No survivors have been found since Friday.
Rain and the threat of more landslides have slowed the work of rescue crews, which include U.S. Marines and search teams from Malaysia and Taiwan.
Aid from around the world is being delivered to Leyte province.
