Police in Gabon broke up an opposition protest in the capital, Libreville, Thursday after the country's constitutional court declared President Omar Bongo the official winner of Sunday's elections.
Angry opposition supporters smashed the windows of shops and cars before riot police moved in to stop the disturbances.
Earlier in the day, police also surrounded a hotel in Libreville where two leading opposition candidates, Pierre Mamboundou and Zacharie Myboto, had called a news conference to complain of fraud in Sunday's elections.
That day, President Omar Bongo, Africa's longest-serving leader, was re-elected for a new seven-year term. Final results showed Mr. Bongo took 79 percent of the vote - with Mr. Mamboundou, his nearest rival, winning just over 14 percent.
