West Virginia native Brad Paisley earned his big break in Country music in 1999, when his second single, "He Didn't Have To Be," shot to the top of the Country chart. Since then, Brad's first three albums have produced numerous hits, and sold a total of more than five million copies. Brad Paisley is once again riding high on the album chart with his latest release, "Time Well Wasted."
Brad Paisley's new CD, "Time Well Wasted," recently became his second album to debut at Number One on Billboard's Country chart. His previous release in 2003, "Mud On The Tires," also entered in the top spot, and went on to spend an amazing 104 weeks on that list.
Brad is credited with being an ambassador of traditional Country music. But his songs incorporate a modern edge that fits well in today's popular contemporary style of Country. His grandfather, Warren Jarvis, who inspired Brad's love for music during his childhood years, says, "Brad may be a young guy, but he's an old soul, building a bridge between the past and future."
Paisley wrote or co-wrote 10 of the 16 songs on "Time Well Wasted." As to the meaning of this album's title, Paisley explains, "I think when you're done with it, there would be nothing more I would wish for someone than to feel like that was 'time well wasted.' That they had literally spent, you know, an hour of their time and were very glad that they didn't do anything else."
Guests on "Time Well Wasted" include Dolly Parton, who sings with Brad on "When I Get Where I'm Going"; and Alan Jackson, who joins in a new version of Guy Clark's "Out In The Parking Lot."
Some critics are calling "Time Well Wasted" one of the best Country albums of 2005. Brad feels the collection offers something for all Country music fans. "I hope somebody will put this in their car, and spend as much time as they can listening beginning to end with it," says Paisley. "It should feel a lot like my other albums that way, in that it's a progression and there are different themes and you go from one topic to another and it feels a little bit like a life journey, I think."
Brad is promoting "Time Well Wasted" on a North American concert tour, which also features Sara Evans and new Country trio Sugarland.
The first single from "Time Well Wasted" is a song Brad wrote about the effects of drinking. "Alcohol" became the fastest-rising chart hit of Brad's career, taking only four weeks to reach the Top 20. The single eventually climbed to Number Five. And, it's just been announced that Brad leads this year's Country Music Association Award contenders with six nominations. Along with his first Entertainer of the Year mention, he earned nominations in the categories of Male Vocalist of the Year and Musical Event of the Year for his duet with Sara Evans, "New Again." Brad's also up for Single, Song and Music Video of the Year for his current hit "Alcohol."
