A Red Cross website is helping thousands of people find relatives and friends displaced by Hurricane Katrina.
Hurricane survivors can post entries telling friends and family where they are. Anyone else can post requests for information about missing loved ones.
The "family links" website was created by the International Committee of the Red Cross. Since Friday, nearly 100,000 names have been registered at http://www.familylinks.icrc.org.
The database is also accessible in the United States through a toll-free telephone number (1 877 568-3317).
The family links website has also been used to reconnect survivors displaced in the Indian Ocean tsunami, as well as armed conflicts in Liberia, Somalia and Kosovo.
