The U.S. state of Hawaii is celebrating after its team of young baseball players clinched the Little League World Series title.
It was the first time a little league team from Hawaii has ever won a world championship. And people here are celebrating the victory of their 11 and 12 year old boys in a heart-stopping final game played Sunday in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Hawaii's Ewa Beach team came back from three runs down to tie the game - which went into a dramatic extra inning. This was the first time a championship game has done that since 1971.
In the end, Ewa Beach beat the defending Caribbean champions from Curacao by a score of 7-6. "Hawaii wins it. Memea homers in the bottom of the 7th inning, and sends Hawaii home the little league champion for the first time ever. How about these kids from Hawaii!", an announcer exclaimed.
No one could be prouder than the close-knit community of Ewa Beach, a former sugarcane plantation on the island of Oahu.
Parents, grandparents and relatives of the players gathered throughout Sunday, glued to their television sets to cheer on the team - which was formed about seven years ago.
Ewa Beach and the rest of Hawaii are now planning a big homecoming for their young baseball champions.
