The Indian government has stepped up diplomatic pressure on Pakistan to spare the life of jailed Indian national Sarabjit Singh who is facing execution for spying.
India's External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh held a meeting in New Delhi with Pakistani Ambassador Aziz Ahmad Khan to press the case.
In Islamabad, the case is being pursued by India's High Commissioner, Shiv Shankar Menon.
India's Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran will also plead for sparing the Indian national's life when he visits Islamabad at the end of this month for talks under the 19-month-old peace process.
Pakistan says Sarabjit Singh is an Indian spy and the country's Supreme Court recently upheld the death sentence for him.
The convict's family says he had strayed into Pakistani territory while farming his land close to Pakistani border some 15 years ago.
