Japan and North Korea met on the sidelines of the six-nation nuclear talks in Beijing Sunday, but made no progress in resolving a bitter dispute over the Cold War abductions of Japanese citizens.
Japanese delegate Kenichiro Sasae told the North's Kim Kye Gwan that Tokyo continues to demand North Korea send back all remaining abductees and turn over their kidnappers.
North Korea has admitted to abducting 13 Japanese in the 1970s and 1980s. The North allowed five to return home and has said the other eight are dead. But Pyongyang has submitted no proof on the fate of the missing abductees, and Japan has expressed strong doubt they are dead.
Mr. Sasae told reporters that Mr. Kim took note of Japan's demands, and said he would report them to officials in Pyongyang.
