In Iran, a gunman on a motorcycle has shot dead a judge trying the high-profile case of jailed Iranian journalist Akbar Ganji.
A judiciary spokesman says the judge, Massoud Moghaddasi, was shot Tuesday while he was leaving his office in Tehran.
The judge has been presiding over the case of Mr. Ganji, who has been in jail since 2001 for publishing articles implicating government officials in the murders of prominent dissidents.
Mr. Ganji currently is in custody at a Tehran hospital. His family says his health is rapidly deteriorating because he has been on a hunger strike for more than 50 days.
