Top Pakistani Envoy to Leave Iraq

update

Iraqi security stand guard as a damaged car is towed away from outside the Pakistan embassy in Baghdad
The Pakistani government says its top envoy in Iraq is leaving the country, after escaping a targeted attack in Baghdad Tuesday.

Ambassador Mohammed Younis Khan was unharmed in the ambush. In a separate incident Tuesday, Bahrain's top envoy to Iraq, Hassan Malallah Al Anasari, was shot in the hand during what Bahraini officials called a failed kidnapping attempt.

The incidents occurred just three days after insurgents kidnapped Egypt's top diplomat in Iraq, Ihab al-Sharif. The insurgent group Al-Qaida in Iraq has claimed responsibility for the abduction.

In fresh violence Wednesday, several attacks on Iraqi police forces left at least one officer dead and nine wounded in Baghdad.
